�Թ�ͷ�� President Rebecca S. Chopp has been awarded the 2008 Professional Achievement Citation from her alma mater, the University of Chicago. The alumni citation honors Chopp for being a “pivotal figure in the field of higher education and a renowned scholar of religion and culture.”

The Upstate Institute Student Philanthropy Council (SPC) at �Թ�ͷ�� has awarded three nonprofit organizations in central New York grants totaling $10,000. The SPC is a service-learning program composed of twelve �Թ�ͷ�� sophomores. This year’s grant money will support initiatives that enhance the personal and life skills development for underserved populations in the community.

By day, Jamal Patterson ’97 works as a sales executive for an orthodontics company. By night, Patterson trades his business suit for boxing shorts as he trains for his next match as a mixed martial arts fighter. It’s a double life, of sorts, that caught the attention of The New York Times.

The remaining tickets for the much-anticipated lecture by the Dalai Lama at �Թ�ͷ�� were snatched up by the general public in just three hours Saturday. The free tickets were available via the �Թ�ͷ�� Bookstore’s website starting at 12:01 a.m. Saturday.
